Association Philotechnique

Boulogne - Billancourt

The Philotechnique Association

The Association Philotechnique of Boulogne-Billancourt is a training centre for adults, who would like to study or improve their languages, their computer skills, painting or even design and create their own clothes.

History

The Mayors of Boulogne and Saint Cloud founded the Association Philotechnique in 1864. In 1873, St Cloud created its own association and Boulogne pursued its activity the following year. At that period Boulogne had 14,000 inhabitants. Today, its population is around 120,000.

Teaching

For many years, teaching was mostly focused on school subjects: mathematics, literature, French. Later cultural activities such as music, theatre and conferences.
Progressively as time passed, the association refocused on adult education. The Association Philotechnique was approved as a training centre by the State in 1987.
The courses offered vary each year according to requests and needs. The community of Boulogne-Billancourt can take advantage of the courses made available by the association. The Association Philotechnique receives a subsidy from the Town Hall of Boulogne-Billancourt, which also provides the premises at 30, Rue de l’Ancienne Mairie.
More than thirty trainers, one assistant and one course manager who are all salaried. Volunteers also help with management and organisation. Thanks to the great help received from them, it allows us to offer quality courses at a very reasonable price, accessible to all. Since its founding, our Association has maintained a modest enrollment fee and has aimed at enabling people to have access to training that is fulfilling in both their personal and professional lives.

Organisation

The Association is a non-profit organization (Act 1901). Administrated by a board of 16 members, renewed by 50% each year. The members at the General Assembly elect these Councils in December. They then meet in early January to elect the board (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer, Secretary, and Deputy Secretary).
Today, the Association has more than 1,500 members, a sign of the interest from the Boulonnais, and not forgetting our members from the surrounding suburbs and Parisians alike.
We are committed to giving you quality teaching at an affordable price in an associative spirit and hope that you will continue to be many to join us...
